To avoid choosing a cushion or mattress that is overly hard or sinks when sat on, it is important to consider the compression or Indentation Load Deflection (ILD) number. Compression denotes the pounds required to compress a piece of foam by 25% and have it bounce back to its original thickness. For instance, a 4" thick foam piece that needs 33 lbs to compress it down by 1" and return to 4" thickness is rated 33 lb compression or ILD.

Durability Requirements:

To maintain durability over 7 to 10 years, it is advisable not to open the package with a box cutter; instead, use a ballpoint pen or pencil and carefully start with a small incision. High density foam is specifically designed for firmness combined with a touch of softness for added comfort, making it ideal for mattresses and cushions. The high-quality compression and material used ensure longevity even under harsh weight conditions.

When ordering high density foam, knowing the size and height of the mattress in advance is important to ensure the correct fit. It is essential to consider the height of your bed frame, foundation, or adjustable bed base, along with the height of the mattress, to determine the overall height of your sleep system.
