For example, a 4" thick foam piece that needs 33 lbs. to compress it by 1" and return to its full thickness has a 33 lb. compression rating or ild (indentation load deflection). All foam sheets are sold per sheet, not per yard. When opening, avoid using a box cutter and opt for a ballpoint pen or pencil. Make a small incision and then break it from there.
