The compression, not density, determines firmness - so be sure to check the ild number if you want to avoid extremely hard cushioning or mattresses that sink when pressure is applied. Compression refers to the number of pounds needed to compress the foam by 25% and then have it spring back to its original thickness. A 33 lb. Compression (or ild) indicates that a 4" thick piece of foam requires 33 lbs. to compress it by 1" and then expand back to 4". Be mindful not to open the package with a box cutter, and instead, use a ballpoint pen or pencil to prevent cutting the foam. With proper care, our foam can last 7 to 10 years.
