For instance, a 4" thick foam piece that requires 33 lbs. to compress it by 1" and then return to its original thickness is said to have a 33 lb. compression rating or ILD.

All foam sheets are sold per sheet, not per yard, and it is recommended to avoid using a box cutter to open them. Instead, a ballpoint pen or a pencil can be used to make a small incision and then break it open from there.
