Compression refers to the number of pounds required to compress a piece of foam by 25% and have it bounce back to its original thickness. For example, a 4" thick piece of foam that needs 33 lbs. to compress it down by 1" and return to its full 4" thickness has a 33 lb. compression rating or ild (indentation load deflection). All foam sheets are sold per sheet, not per yard. It is recommended not to open them with a box cutter but to use a ballpoint pen or pencil instead. To ensure durability, the foam will last 7 to 10 years.
